HP Powers Music Matters Live & YouTube FanFest

HP technology helps bring creativity to life at a week-long entertainment event

Kuala Lumpur, May 20, 2013—HP will power the award-winning Digital & Music Matters taking place here from 20-24 May. This year’s week-long conference and entertainment event will feature the Asia debut of the YouTube FanFest with HP. The two-night showcase will highlight a roster of 20 established and breakout YouTube stars from around the world, with a combined subscriber base of 12.5 million and over 3.8 billion views. This new addition will merge entertainment with education through ‘live’ performances and fresh content from famous and up-and-coming YouTube stars, as well as interactive meet and greet sessions for fans.

Music Matters Live with HP and YouTube FanFest with HP will provide a platform to showcase the integral role that technology plays in the creative process and in the enjoyment of art, music and entertainment. Through this festival, HP will equip selected artists such as Ryan Higa, Mychonny and Eat Your Kimchi with a suite of innovative Intel-powered, Windows 8 products, including the HP ENVY x2, which utilise immersive audio, visual and touch experiences that enhance the creative process and enable the creation of rich content on the go. These artists will use HP technology to power a series of videos that will capture their favourite moments in the run-up to and during the event.

“Digital & Music Matters is an excellent opportunity for HP to connect with a new generation of digital natives who are enthusiastic about creating and enjoying content,” said Nick Lazaridis, chief operating officer and vice president, Personal Systems Category, HP Asia Pacific and Japan. “We’re excited for the opportunity to provide the latest HP products featuring Windows 8 to the artists at Music Matters Live with HP and YouTube FanFest with HP, and we’re anticipating how they’ll use our innovations to bring their creativity to life and do things that matter to themselves and their fans.”

The  HP ENVY x2 is a powerful, ultrathin hybrid PC that delivers the power of a notebook and the freedom of a tablet in one stylish, lightweight device. Featuring the intuitive power of touch to bring out the best of Windows 8, the HP ENVY x2 offers a smooth, fast and fluid user experience. Embodying a notebook that doubles as a tablet, it has a detachable screen that becomes a full tablet when separated from the keyboard via a seamless magnetic latch.

With an Intel® Atom™ processor, the sleek and stylish HP ENVY x2 delivers exceptional mobility without compromising performance featuring a battery life of up to 10-hours(). It is equipped with Beats AudioTM for the best-sounding, richest audio experience available on a PC. HP devices, including the ENVY x2, enable consumers to unleash their creativity when developing content on the go and empower them to pursue their passions.

“We’re proud to partner with HP this year, as we work together to further our vision of bringing the best of today’s emerging artists to the delegates of this year’s Digital & Music Matters, and their fans in Asia,” said Jasper Donat, president of Digital & Music Matters and CEO, Branded Ltd. “We look forward to providing budding artists with a platform to be seen and heard, and the opportunity to learn tricks of the trade and network with the Music Matters delegates to discover new opportunities.”

Music Matters Live with HP, a three-night music festival, will conclude the week-long Digital & Music Matters event, featuring over 50 bands from 20 countries across six venues in Clarke Quay, Singapore.

HP enables more than 50 students from Singapore Polytechnic (SP) to be involved in the making of Music Matters Live with HP. Using the HP Z1 and Z620 Workstations, SP students from the Diploma in Visual Effects and Motion Graphics will be in charge of producing, filming and editing the footage on the spot for live streaming on YouTube for international audience. They will be assisted by their classmates from the Diploma in Music and Audio Technology who will be providing audio and technological support for the live broadcast. SP students will also take on the role of journalists to cover the event.

“We are advocates of ‘learning-by-doing’ and Music Matters Live with HP allows our students to put the skills and lessons they have learned to good use in a challenging and real environment,” said Georgina Phua, director, School of Digital Media and Information Technology, Singapore Polytechnic.

This year, delegates and budding artists can also look forward to two full days of mentoring sessions and workshops at the Music Matters Academy with HP from 23-24 May. The workshops allow industry experts from the music and entertainment industry to share useful tips and advice to help grow the local talent base, including members of the Singapore Music Society.
